The University of Vigo and China’s Central South University strengthen their ties in international cooperation
Yesterday 11th of November, the University of Vigo received a delegation from the Chinese Central South University (CSU), one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the Asian country, as part of an institutional and scientific programme which included meetings at the Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital and the Galicia South Health Research Institute. The visit is part of a process to strengthen cooperation between the two universities, which is being driven by Professor Jesús Simal, who has played a notable role as a promoter of this strategic relationship.
During the visit, progress was made towards signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions. This document lays the foundations for future joint actions in areas such as research, academic mobility and higher education, with special attention to areas such as life sciences, biomedicine, advanced materials and various fields related to engineering.

Furthermore, the occasion was taken to present the so-called ‘action plan’, a five-year calendar to consolidate the cooperation. The plan provides for joint research projects, PhD cotutorship programmes, researcher mobility and, in the final stages, the creation of a Joint Virtual Laboratory. This structure will allow continuity for the first projects already underway, which will serve to ‘seed’ and ensure sustainable long-term results.
For the AA1 group (represented by Professor Simal), this alliance represents a decisive step in the internationalisation of the group’s university research, bringing Galicia closer to one of Asia’s most dynamic scientific regions and also opening up new opportunities for funding, exchange and knowledge transfer within a framework of high-quality academic cooperation.
